Submitting to Search Engines: No longer the fifth order of business

More and more, automated search engine submission is being frowned upon if not outright abandoned. It has been abused by spammers to the point where many search engines no longer allow it. For the ones that still do allow automated submission there is but one simple rule to remember: Do not over submit, once per month is considered acceptable, it is however my not so humble opinion that the time it takes to do this can be better spent on other SEO efforts. If you do submit your links to search engines, be extremely careful which ones you choose. You will find that laying spider bait produces far better results than search engine submission but it still can be an important aspect of website optimization for the simple reason that you control all information that is submitted and who it is submitted to. Manul submission to directories and smaller search engines which are relevent to your niche or industry will produce far greater results. You should also always be continually searching for regional search engines and local directories, they can be very important in your promotional efforts.

RSS Feeds and Blog Directories are important as well: The natural progression of optimizing your web site will take you through a number of processes or steps as you diligently complete the necessary work. Further along in these steps are the considerations of using RSS feeds and/or a blog as an integral part of your SEO efforts. We recommend that a blog, preferably from a highly ranked blogging site such as Blogger.com, becomes a part of your web site. This will facilitate the submission of your blog link to the blog directories as well as having a built in RSS feed. An important stop with a number of articles and resources pertaining to RSS Feeds is here: RSS Feeds Additionally, here is a blog directory page for manual submissions: Blog and RSS Feed Submission Directory

The Discount Carbide Story:

The carbide insert business on the internet is ultra competitive. Carbide inserts are consumable cutting edges used in industry that are very expensive, very small (and subsequently easy to ship) making them a product ideally suited for internet marketing. Subsequently there are internet marketeers competing heavily for the keywords associated with this industry. Any derivitive of "carbide inserts" is already in use, either incorporated into a domain name or having Pay Per Click bids on it. Using the Good Keywords free software, the author of this eBook report happened upon the derivative "Discount Carbide" and realized that it had been overlooked. It also made a nice sounding name for a business that would be selling carbide inserts online. A quick search for the domain name "discountcarbide.com" revealed that it was available, it was immediately purchased through the web host provider where the Discount Carbide Online store was hosted. A blog on Blogger.com was attached to it as a News link where an announcement was made of the inception of Discount Carbide. At the same time, the domain name "discount-carbide.com" (with the hyphen) was purchased through the Yahoo Domain Name service and pointed as a masked re-direct to the online store. By utilizing two domain names incorporating a derivative keyword phrase, costing $10 each per year, a blog on Blogger.com (as well as its built in RSS Feed) and concentrating on the strategy of dropping spider bait; number one search results were achieved within 3 days.

At approximately 200 searches per month for this keyword phrase, this is a small segment of the traffic associated with the carbide insert industry but it is highly targetted and good quality traffic that easily covers the costs of the two domain names. There is also an associated phenomona that will take place once a web site does come up number one for a specific search term that some refer to as "leaching". Search terms that are close, mispelled or even vaguely related can return a highly visible web site in the search results if there is no other more relevant site. This combined additional traffic is estimated to be in the neighbourhood of 200 visitors per month as well with a good number of these visitors being high quality traffic. 400 visitors in total per month from all of this effort may not sound like much but it must be re-emphasized that most of this traffic is very good quality traffic, with an exceptionally high conversion rate and it grows from here. The leaching effect continues, internet visibility broadens, the effort is ongoing but the point is that being realistic, setting your sights at the right targets and implementing proven SEO techniques will create internet visibility for your web site. The internet is an extremely fast paced environment, changes occur rapidly, technologies, techniques and strategies sometimes become redundant in a short time span. If there is one thing we have seen proven time and time again however, it is that properly applied and implemented SEO strategies never go out of style.
